Eurovision 2017

After Eurovision Grand Final show the audience was simply awed by the interval act of the Ukrainian electronic band ONUKA. Many Ukrainians in their social media accounts wondered why ONUKA wasn’t the one to represent Ukraine in Eurovision 2017, while numerous international Eurovision fans  said that all the contestants were great, but the live gig by ONUKA simply blew their minds.

Portugal has won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. Portugal is the longest-running contestant never to have won the competition, despite trying for 53 years. Ultimately the quietest performance resonated the loudest, and Europeans handed victory to Portugal’s Salvador Sobral, a 27-year-old jazz performer with a humble song about love.

In less than 2 weeks Eurovision Song Contest 27 officially kicks off in Kyiv. Ticket sales for Eurovision 2017 started on February 14, 2017 with a one week delay. The first batch of the tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 went on sale on Tuesday February 14 at 7.15 p.m. at the local ticket agency's homepage: concert.ua.

On February 25, the final of the Eurovision 2017 national selection took place, at which O.Torvald Ukrainian band, was selected to represent the country at the song contest.

As per tradition, the Eurovision 2017 Song Contest will be held in Kyiv this May. While Eurovision is common knowledge throughout the continent and even beyond, many people “across the pond” often know nothing about it. Here are some interesting facts and figures about the song contest.

In 2004 Ruslana with her song Wild Dances took Europe by storm scoring the first victory for Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest. She won the competition with the energetic performance together with her dancing troupe to the Carpathian rhythm of Wild Dances. Ruslana’s song Wild Dances was dedicated to the importance of being authentic and original.

Last year, millions watched Ukrainian act as Jamala took to the stage and secured the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest title, bringing the glitz and glamour of Eurovision back to Eastern Europe for 2017. The country hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in both 2009 and 2013. The event is a major opportunity for any host country to showcase itself to the rest of the world and that resonates especially in Ukraine.

Eurovision 2017 will be held in Kyiv, Ukraine on 9, 11 and 13 May 2017 after winning the competition in 2016 with the song "1944" performed by Jamala.

Ukrainian singer Jamala won the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, held in Stockholm, scoring 534 points in total with 211 votes from the jury and 323 votes from the European audience. Congratulations, Jamala!
