New Art and Cultural Spaces in Kyiv

Last year was bountiful with various art events: the loud opening of Kyiv Podil Theatre, GogolFest traditional artists meet-up, long-awaited Kyiv Biennale and many others. The art spaces that host these events usually are true veterans of Kyiv cultural scene, dating back to mid-decade or start of the millennium. However, 2017 presented new players in the game. Check out these new places to keep an eye on this year.

IT-Town Unit.City was created on the basis of the former Kyiv Motorcycle Factory. Abandoned industrial buildings became home for IT start-ups, business campuses, lecture halls, a cafe, and a sports hall. Public space with street furniture was arranged outside. A remaining 60-meter chimney from the motor factory is planned to be turned into an art installation — a lighthouse that will work in the evening and at night. British artist Sebastian Kite, who has won the art projects contest, announced by Unit.City last summer, will lead the project.
